The play is set in the 1930s during the month of May in the living-room of the Haggetts' home in Childer Barnston.

Just in case you are wondering what the Haggett family are tucking into, I can tell you that the props and perishables list in the script calls for "Porridge, butter, bread, sugar, milk, tea, cruet, marmalade, soup and biscuits." This scenario can cause a certain amount of difficulty for the prompt. "Is that pause for effect, has she forgotten her words, or does she have a mouthful of porridge?"

The above picture was not labelled and spent some time in our "unknown" folder. However, a little detective work suggests that it most likely comes from this play. These three most distinguished looking gentlemen have been identified as (left-right) Bert Moore, Donald Hume and Percy Hodgson.

They are listed on four occasions in the same cast as follows;
1976 Will Any Gentleman?
1978 Lord Arthur Savile's Crimes
1979 The Late Christopher Bean

A comparison against the other pictures on this page reveals a strong likeness in Percy Hodgson's manner of dress, so "The Late Christopher Bean" emerges as the favourite.
